The disease is hitting Afro-Americans hardest in the States too. We need far better protections and wages for our essential workers. ]]> By: Anonymous https://www.medicinematters.ca/filipino-health-care-professionals/#comment-3 Tue, 05 May 2020 04:49:22 +0000 https://medicinematters.live-website.com/?p=42#comment-3 5 ]]> By: ediriweera desapriya https://www.medicinematters.ca/filipino-health-care-professionals/#comment-2 Tue, 05 May 2020 04:09:51 +0000 https://medicinematters.live-website.com/?p=42#comment-2 Thank you for sharing insightful story about how Covid 19 dispropotionately impact our health care workers in our long term care facilities in BC. The COVID-19 pandemic is presenting significant challenges for many segments of the health care industry. Since the COVID-19 pandemic first surfaced in BC, outbreaks in long term care facilities have been widespread and it is estimated that about half of the COVID-19 deaths in BC linked to outbreaks in long-term care facilities. The highly transmissible nature of the coronavirus combined with the congregate nature of these facility settings and the close and personal contact that many long-term care workers have with patients puts them at elevated risk of infection. Because of often ill-equipped with personal protection equipments (PPE) and poorly prepared (however, credible research have forecasted about this pandemic well in advance). Despite, our health care heroes are working hard with compassion to save others lives while risking their own lives. They honor us all with their commitment, dedication, empathy selflessness, and professionalism. We all need to show our sincere gratitude and think about everyone of them every day. ]]>
